Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

Capcom has cleverly teased the upcoming Resident Evil 9 in a way that's easy to miss but thrilling for eagle-eyed fans. To celebrate reaching a remarkable 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong in a secretive chat with one of gaming's most iconic villains, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by an infected horde wearing party hats as they advance towards a church.

The video takes an amusing turn with Dr. Salvador strumming his chainsaw as if it were a guitar to the tune of a rock song, with Leon energetically fist-pumping in the foreground. Behind him, a rustic sign proudly displays "Thank you for playing."

However, turn that sign on its side, and the boards cleverly form the Roman numeral "IX," hinting at the number 9. While this might seem like a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the same sign lacked the lower plank in earlier parts of the video, suggesting this was an intentional addition. One fan responded with surprise, saying, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has also confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, directed by Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi, is on its way. Nakanishi, reflecting on the challenges post-Resident Evil 7, said at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Speculation suggests, though not confirmed, that the game may be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
