While Avowed has been compared to Skyrim, its gameplay is more akin to Obsidian's The Outer Worlds, a single-player experience. This begs the question: does Avowed offer multiplayer capabilities? The short answer is no.
Avowed lacks both cooperative and player-versus-player (PvP) modes. You'll journey through the fantasy world with companions, but these will be non-player characters (NPCs), mirroring the structure of The Outer Worlds. Similarly, all enemies are AI-controlled, eliminating any possibility of player invasion or similar mechanics. While initial plans included multiplayer features, Obsidian Entertainment ultimately removed them, citing a focus on other aspects of development.
Despite the absence of built-in multiplayer, the possibility of a community-created co-op mod remains. However, no such mod has yet emerged, and Obsidian has confirmed no future plans to add multiplayer functionality. The development team's decision to forgo co-op, while initially marketed to investors, doesn't necessarily detract from the overall single-player experience. Therefore, Avowed remains a strictly solo adventure.
