Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor within the game.

Upgrade Locations: Workbenches and Party Camps

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Find a Waystone, interact with it to set up camp, and the location will appear on your map as a tent icon, allowing for fast travel. Upgrades require various materials, readily available through exploration or crafting, with higher-quality upgrades demanding rarer Adra.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels

Gear in Avowed has two key power levels: Quality and additional upgrade tiers.

• Quality: This is indicated by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and descriptive adjective. Matching or exceeding enemy Quality is vital for effective combat. Lower Quality gear will perform poorly against higher-level foes.

• Additional Upgrade Tiers (+0 to +3): Within each Quality level, three additional upgrade tiers exist. While less impactful than Quality increases, they still boost stats. All three must be completed before advancing to the next Quality.

Here's a breakdown of weapon qualities:

• Common: Green, Level I
• Fine: Blue, Level II
• Exceptional: Purple, Level III
• Superb: Red, Level IV
• Legendary: Gold, Level V

Prioritizing Upgrades: Unique vs. Standard Gear

Avowed features two gear types: standard and unique. Standard gear is common loot or merchant purchases, while unique items are named, special pieces often obtained through quests or boss drops. Some merchants may also sell unique gear.

Upgrade Strategy:

Focus your upgrade resources on unique weapons and armor. Unique gear can reach Legendary Quality, unlike standard gear (which maxes at Superb). Unique items also possess superior bonuses and perks. Use standard gear temporarily, selling or dismantling it for resources to enhance your unique equipment.
