Batman, Deadpool Unite in First DC-Marvel Crossover in 22 Years

Author: Scarlett Feb 08,2026

The rivalry between Marvel and DC is the stuff of legends, yet these two comic giants are temporarily setting aside their differences to release their first crossover comics since JLA/Avengers back in 2003. And what better pairing to herald this renewed collaboration than Batman and Deadpool?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel and DC are joining forces for two one-shot specials starring the Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth. Marvel will release Deadpool/Batman #1, written by Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) and illustrated by Greg Capullo (Batman), while DC will publish Batman/Deadpool #1, penned by Grant Morrison (Batman) with art by Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest). Each comic will also include backup adventures that bring together additional heroes from the Marvel and DC universes.

This collaboration marks the first official Marvel/DC crossover in over two decades (excluding the crossovers seen in Fortnite's Omniverse). Before this, the publishers had a long history of crossover projects, starting with 1976's Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.

"These crossovers tend to happen once in a generation. I’ll let you speculate on the reasons," Jim Lee, DC's President, Chief Creative Officer, and Publisher, tells EW. "Timing is crucial—you don’t want to overdo it. You want these events to feel unique. It’s about finding the right moment for both companies to align, because it’s a complex process. There’s extensive coordination, collaboration, and approvals involved. From a business perspective, revenue is shared, but the impact is significant. So the story itself must justify the excitement surrounding it."

When asked why Batman and Deadpool were chosen to lead this crossover event, Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley explained that the unconventional pairing simply felt right.

"It just seemed like a fun and quirky combination—nothing more complicated than that," Buckley says. "Imagine Deadpool hanging out with Batman. There's plenty of humor, plenty of fun, and yes, a good dose of over-the-top action too. Our main goal is to create something enjoyable, celebrate comic storytelling, generate buzz, and attract both new readers and those who may have drifted away from the industry."
