- CookieRun’s sprawling New York City pop-up shop became a major sensation among fans this past weekend
- More than 10,000 visitors traveled to the location for exclusive merchandise
- Queues stretched back hours, with dedicated fans arriving as early as 6 am
Over the weekend, lucky visitors in New York City likely encountered some truly unforgettable sights. From the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building to that one subway rider eager to share their mundane opinions—ahem. But perhaps you also spotted the enormous CookieRun pop-up store!
I’ll admit, we feature Cookie Run frequently because of its immense popularity. That’s why even smaller news stories, relative to our usual coverage, make it into our feed. However, don’t let that fool you; with over 10,000 visitors attending, the New York City pop-up was undeniably a massive hit among fans.
Beyond its immediate success, this event highlights a broader shift in consumer trends. Mobile gaming, and gaming as a whole, now commands attention comparable to major fashion drops and unique cultural events. We are witnessing this phenomenon here in the UK and across America, having seen it flourish in Asia for many years.

Run cookie, run
Fans were incredibly eager to enter the store, with reports indicating lines formed as early as 6 am. At its peak, wait times surpassed three hours, but surely there was plenty of value in that delay. Devsisters certainly delivered on their promise, offering over 130 pieces of exclusive merchandise themed specifically for New York.
The continued prominence and popularity of CookieRun are worth noting. This follows closely on the heels of their recent collaboration with the cast of KPop Demon Hunters, which made quite a splash. If this latest real-world event has resonated so strongly, it leaves us wondering what exciting developments lie ahead.
As always, CookieRun is just one piece of the vast mobile gaming puzzle. New releases constantly emerge to compete for attention. Catherine recently explored one such title with her preview of Petit Planet, MiHoYo’s upcoming entry into the life-simulation genre.
