Michael Sarnoski, the acclaimed director behind A Quiet Place: Day One, is gearing up to helm the live-action adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game Death Stranding. According to Deadline, Sarnoski will take on both writing and directing duties for this project, which is being produced by A24 and Kojima Productions, in collaboration with Square Peg.
Sarnoski's previous works include the A Quiet Place spin-off Day One and the 2021 film Pig, featuring Nicolas Cage. He's also set to direct and write The Death of Robin Hood, another exciting project under the A24 banner.
While details about the *Death Stranding* live-action adaptation remain scarce, the game itself is ripe for cinematic transformation. Set in a post-apocalyptic America, the 2019 game follows players as they attempt to reconnect a fragmented nation amidst an extinction-level crisis, all while navigating a world filled with nightmarish creatures and eerie phenomena. Hideo Kojima's flair for cinematic storytelling further enhances its potential for a compelling film adaptation. The original game boasted an impressive cast, including Norman Reedus as the protagonist Sam Bridges, alongside Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. It will be intriguing to see if these actors return to reprise their roles in the live-action version.
Fans of the franchise have more to look forward to, as Kojima Productions has confirmed the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. This sequel has already attracted additional talent, with Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning joining the cast.
As anticipation builds for the Death Stranding movie, it's worth noting that another Kojima-related project, the Metal Gear Solid film, is still in the works, albeit with slower progress. Given the star power and cinematic nature of Death Stranding, its transition to live-action seems promising and eagerly awaited by fans.
