Fallout 76 Ghoul Update Details

Fallout 76 Season 20 plunges players into the irradiated heart of Appalachia, offering the thrilling opportunity to become a Ghoul. This update, launched March 18th, introduces a wealth of ghoul-themed features, mechanics, and cosmetics, completely transforming your C.A.M.P. experience.

Unleash Your Inner Ghoul

Bethesda's "The Ghoul Within" update lets you embrace your inner ghoul through a process called Ghoulification. Initiated by the "Leap of Faith" questline, this journey takes you to a new area of the Savage Divide, where you'll meet new characters and undergo your transformation. Becoming a Ghoul grants access to unique abilities—Glow and Feral—along with 30 exclusive Perks (Bethesda calls them "Gherks").

The Feral ability replaces hunger and thirst, offering stat boosts based on your Feral meter. A depleted meter (0%) results in extreme gameplay changes: +150% Melee Damage, but at the cost of -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy.

The Glow ability allows you to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and—as the name suggests—making you glow. It also increases your maximum health, heals damage, and contributes to your Ghoul Perks.

Choose from 28 Perks and two new legendary Perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that Perks related to hunger, thirst, and chem resistance are unavailable, as Ghouls don't need those benefits.

A Ghoul's Life in Appalachia

Your new Ghoul abilities and Perks make exploring the irradiated wasteland a breeze. However, be warned: factions like the Brotherhood of Steel will be hostile towards you, potentially blocking access to certain questlines.

Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye provides disguises that allow you to bypass these restrictions. If you tire of Ghoul life, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen—but this is a one-way trip. Reacquiring Ghoulification requires purchasing Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

Level 50 Character Boost and Patch Notes

Season 20 also includes a Level 50 Character Boost (1500 Atoms), providing a significant head start for new and returning players. This boost grants various perks and advantages, allowing immediate access to Daily Ops, Public Events, and story content.

The patch also includes bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat balancing, weapon damage adjustments, and more. Bethesda also highlights the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update scheduled for April 29th.

Since its rocky launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has undergone significant improvements.
