The classic strategy game, ROME: Total War, has just received a significant free update on Android, courtesy of Feral Interactive. Dubbed the Imperium Update, this patch introduces a plethora of gameplay tweaks, control enhancements, and quality-of-life improvements that elevate the mobile gaming experience. If you're an avid player of this timeless title, which made its debut on Android back in 2018, you're in for a treat with a host of new features and refinements. Excitingly, the same update is slated to roll out next week for the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander.
What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?
The Imperium Update integrates some of the most lauded features from Feral’s newer mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. Among the key enhancements, ROME: Total War now boasts three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These modes grant you enhanced control over your units, making battles more precise and engaging. A simple tap and hold now suffices to maneuver your army, agents, or fleets, eliminating the need for manual path dragging.
Positioning Mode allows for meticulous unit placement adjustments through a tap-and-hold mechanism. The Group Grid feature streamlines unit group management with a collapsible selection menu, while Melee Mode enables ranged units to seamlessly transition to close combat when the situation calls for it.
One of the standout additions is the Command Slowdown feature, which automatically decelerates the game during complex command issuance, aiding in better strategic planning. Additionally, for the first time, ROME: Total War on Android (and iPad) now supports keyboard and mouse inputs, enhancing user interaction.
The update also revamps the minimap, borrowing inspiration from MEDIEVAL II to offer smoother zooming and navigation capabilities. A new reset button provides a quick way to revert to the default view, improving usability.
The Imperium Update is currently live, and if you own ROME: Total War on Android, you can download it now from the Google Play Store. Keep an eye out for the updates coming to Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week, and don't miss out on these enhancements to your gaming experience.
