In Hyper Light Breaker, players encounter a variety of resources, but none are as coveted as Golden Rations. These rare resources are essential for some of the game's most crucial upgrades. However, the game does not provide clear guidance on what these materials are or where to find them. While the roguelike nature of the game means you'll eventually learn through trial and error, here’s a guide to help you locate Golden Rations more efficiently.
Where to Get Golden Rations
In the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, you can acquire Golden Rations through two primary methods: exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often hold resources that can be used for purchases or unlocking upgrades, and there's a chance they might contain Golden Rations. You can identify a chest with Golden Rations by the distinctive Golden Ration icon displayed above it.
Areas marked with Prisms, signified by a golden diamond icon on the map, are prime spots where you might find chests containing Golden Rations.
The second method involves waiting for or forcing a cycle reset. A cycle in Hyper Light Breaker corresponds to each instance of the Overgrowth and resets when your Rez count hits zero. Upon exhausting your revives, you have the choice to retry the map, sacrificing resources, or to reset the cycle entirely at the Cursed Outpost. After a cycle reset, you'll be scored, and ranking up can reward you with Golden Rations.
What are Golden Rations For?
Golden Rations are a pivotal resource in Hyper Light Breaker, necessary for advancing through the game. They are primarily used to unlock upgrades at your home base, allowing you to invest in permanent enhancements for your characters or new services from vendors.
Moreover, Golden Rations are key to unlocking Sycoms, which define your chosen Breaker's stats and core passive ability, significantly influencing your playstyle and making them highly valuable.
Upon obtaining your first Golden Ration, we highly recommend prioritizing the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit. This upgrade can make subsequent runs more manageable, especially given the game's steep penalties for combat errors.
If you die during a run, rest assured that you'll retain any resources you've collected. However, your weapons, amps, and perks will suffer one pip's worth of damage, risking permanent destruction.
