The buzz around Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has been electric, and PC gamers are eager to know if they'll get to experience the latest in the iconic series. While an official announcement for a PC version remains elusive, hints from Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, suggest that fans might not have to wait too long after the initial release.
GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed, Yet Promising
During an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Zelnick shed light on the company's platform strategy. He highlighted that while their upcoming title Civilization 7 would launch simultaneously on consoles and PC, Rockstar Games typically adopts a staggered release approach. "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms," he noted.
This pattern is evident in the release history of previous titles. GTA 5 initially hit the shelves for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions in November 2014, and finally made its way to PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with the PC version following in November 2019.
While GTA 6's PC release remains unconfirmed, Zelnick's comments suggest a strong inclination towards bringing the game to PC, aligning with Rockstar's tradition of eventually expanding to all major platforms. This has fueled hope among PC gamers, despite their initial wish for a simultaneous launch across all platforms.
Confidence in GTA 6's Multiplatform Success
Zelnick also underscored the increasing significance of the PC market, noting that it can contribute up to 40% of a multiplatform game's total sales. He emphasized the evolving nature of gaming, with PC gaining a more substantial share of what was once predominantly a console market. "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue," he stated.
Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes that major releases like GTA 6 not only boost sales but also drive console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he explained.
He further predicted a significant uptick in console sales in 2025 due to a robust release schedule, not just from Take-Two but from other publishers as well. "So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC," he concluded.
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, but a specific date has yet to be announced. Keep an eye on our Grand Theft Auto 6 page for the latest updates on this highly anticipated game.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Heading to Switch 2
In a recent Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm about expanding their portfolio to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. He pointed out the evolving nature of the Switch, which now appeals to a broader audience beyond just younger gamers. "The Switch device can support any audience," he remarked.
With the announcement that Civilization 7 will be available on the Switch, Zelnick hinted at further support for Nintendo's next console. "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch," he added, indicating a promising future for Take-Two and Rockstar titles on the Switch 2.
