MultiVersus presented two last characters while fans threaten game developers

MultiVersus's story is a cautionary tale in game development, akin to the infamous Concord debacle. Despite its impending closure, the game's final chapter will feature two highly anticipated characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.

This announcement follows considerable fan backlash, with some resorting to threats against the development team. In response, MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh issued a statement pleading for civility and condemning the threats.

Huynh apologized for the unfulfilled requests of fans hoping to see their preferred characters included, expressing hope that Season 5 will provide a satisfying conclusion. He explained the complexity of character selection, emphasizing that his personal influence was less than some players believed.

The shutdown announcement also sparked anger among players unable to utilize their in-game tokens on the promised new characters—a perk for purchasers of the premium $100 edition. This unfulfilled promise may have contributed to the escalation of threats.
