Author: Riley May 04,2025

Ubisoft is steering Skull and Bones into an exciting Year 2, promising to make the pirate multiplayer game bigger than ever with significant content updates. These include new modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and a highly anticipated feature: land combat.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled a treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The highlight of the presentation was Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will finally introduce the much-requested land combat. Players will be able to step off their ships and engage in swordfights and gun battles on land as part of the Rogue Warlord additions. This feature will allow players to explore sandy beaches and damp caves in search of skilled crew members known as Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse of what to expect, but we'll need to wait until later this year to see the full implementation.

While land combat is the most significant addition to Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft has planned a range of updates to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, arriving in summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, slated for this winter, will introduce the Kraken, the Hunter's Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

If these updates have piqued your interest, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones is offering a free weekend from April 17 – 21. During this period, players can experience pirate PvP firsthand and take advantage of a discounted purchase price, which will be announced soon.

Skull and Bones initially launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has not released official sales figures, they did report "record player engagement" shortly after the game's release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
