A cinematic trailer dropped on July 18th, showcasing the game's ambitious vision. CEO Ian Proulx stated their goal is to create a game with lasting appeal, aiming for a lifespan of a decade or more. This vision led to a complete overhaul of the game's mechanics, moving beyond the original's arena shooter inspiration to build a deeper, more satisfying gameplay loop.

Hilary Goldstein, Head of Marketing, highlighted the reimagining of portal mechanics, aiming for a balance that rewards skillful portal use without making it mandatory for success.

Developed in Unreal Engine 5 and remaining free-to-play, Splitgate 2 introduces a faction system. While retaining familiar elements, the developers promise a completely fresh experience compared to the original. It's confirmed for release in 2025 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

The core gameplay of portal-based arena combat remains, but with significant enhancements. The original Splitgate, after a successful demo attracting 600,000 downloads in a month, saw massive popularity requiring server upgrades. It officially launched on September 15, 2022, after which development ceased to focus on this sequel.
