Stardew Valley: How To Cultivate Honey

Author: Adam Mar 16,2025

In Stardew Valley, thriving isn't just about farming and animal husbandry; it's about crafting too. A sometimes-overlooked artisanal product with surprisingly high profit potential is honey. Surprisingly easy to cultivate, honey production can quickly become a lucrative venture, from a small-scale operation to a full-blown honey empire. Let's delve into the sweet world of Stardew Valley honey.

Updated January 9, 2025, by Demaris Oxman: Honey is a surprisingly valuable artisan product in Stardew Valley, providing a compelling reason to cultivate beautiful flower fields. Whether you're aiming for a honey-centric farm or simply maximizing your Bee House output, this guide covers everything you need to know, updated for version 1.6.

Building a Bee House

Bee House

Honey production hinges on bees, requiring a Bee House (unlocked at Farming Level 3). Crafting a single Bee House needs:

  • 40 Wood Wood
  • 8 Coal Coal
  • 1 Iron Bar Iron Bar
  • 1 Maple Syrup Maple Syrup

Alternatively, you can obtain a Bee House by completing the Fall Crops Bundle (Community Center) or as a Prize Counter reward.

Place your Bee House outdoors—farm, forest, quarry—anywhere works. It produces honey every 3-4 days (all seasons except Winter; year-round on Ginger Island). Use an axe or pickaxe to move it; any ready honey will drop. Note: Bee Houses in the Greenhouse don't produce honey.

Flowers & Honey Types

Different Honey Types

Without flowers within five tiles, you get Wild Honey (100g, 140g with Artisan). Nearby flowers (including those in Garden Pots) enhance honey type and value. Remember, the Artisan profession (Farming Level 10) boosts all Artisan goods by 40%:

Tulip Honey Tulip160g224g
Blue Jazz Honey Blue Jazz200g280g
Sunflower Honey Sunflower260g364g
Summer Spangle Honey Summer Spangle280g392g

Fairy Rose Honey Fairy Rose680g952g

To get specific honey types, avoid harvesting flowers before collecting honey. Wild Seed flowers (Sweet Peas, Daffodils) yield Wild Honey.

Honey Uses

While higher-value honeys are best sold directly, Wild Honey and others can be used for crafting or gifting.

Mead

Mead

Use a Keg Keg to make Mead. Artisan benefits apply. Aging in a Cask Cask increases value:

  • Normal: 200g (280g)
  • Silver: 250g (350g)
  • Gold: 300g (420g)
  • Iridium: 400g (560g)

Honey type doesn't affect Mead value; use Wild Honey for maximum profit.

Crafting & Bundles

Honey (with Hardwood and Fiber) crafts a Warp Totem Warp Totem: Farm (Farming Level 8). It also completes the Community Center's Artisan Bundle and appears in some Fish Pond quests.

Gifting

Gifting Honey

Honey is a well-liked gift (except Maru and Sebastian). Wild Honey is ideal for friendship building (or romance!). Mead is also a good gift (avoid Penny, Sebastian, and children).
