Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster's Development Time Was Longer Than Expected
Developers Wanted To Honor The Originals
The passion to create a remaster that honors the original Suikoden games drove the development team to spend 5 years perfecting Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster. In a recent interview with Dengeki Online on March 4, 2025, the developers behind Suikoden I & II HD Remaster (Suikoden 1 and 2 HDR) shed light on their journey to achieve a high-quality remaster.
Initially announced in 2022 with a planned release in 2023, the game faced delays, pushing its release to this year. Takahiro Sakiyama, the IP and Game Director for the Suikoden Gensho series, explained that extensive debugging at the end of development necessitated a review, leading to the delay.
Tatsuya Ogushi, the Game Director for Suikoden 1 and 2 HDR, emphasized their approach, "We started by thoroughly understanding the situation. After discussions with Sakiyama on quality standards, it was evident that we needed to address many areas meticulously."
Reviving the Series
The remaster is not merely a standalone project but a crucial first step in revitalizing the Suikoden franchise. Rui Naito, the Suikoden series Producer, shared the team's vision for the future, stating, "The most important aspect was ensuring this remaster was solid, as it's the foundation for reviving the Suikoden IP. We couldn't afford to stumble at the start." He stressed the importance of a strong beginning to ensure the series' revival, warning, "If we release a half-baked work at this point, it could halt the revival process right here."
Gensou Suikoden Live Revealed New Anime, Mobile Game, and More

Naito elaborated, "We've been diligently refining Suikoden I & II HDR and are deeply committed to the upcoming mobile game Suikoden STAR LEAP and the Suikoden II anime." He expressed optimism about future endeavors, saying, "Once we successfully deliver these projects, we can start planning our next moves."

Additionally, a mobile game titled "Genso Suikoden: STAR LEAP" was revealed. Both projects have teaser trailers available, but no specific release dates have been announced yet.
