Accessing Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria: A Guide

Since Fields of Mistria entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been a tantalizing spot on the town map. However, players couldn't explore this mysterious location until the game's March 2025 update. Let's dive into how you can unlock the Deep Woods and meet Caldarus in this enchanting world.

How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

To unlock the Deep Woods, you'll need to break the Fire Seal and harness the new Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the vines that hide this area in Fields of Mistria. Start by collecting four crucial items to place on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. You can gather the first three items between floors 50 and 59. For the Sealing Scroll, you'll need to collaborate with Juniper and Balor.

To get the Sealing Scroll, leave the following items in the bin by Balor's wagon:

• x10 Silver Ingots
• x10 Rubies
• x10 Sapphires
• x10 Emeralds

After fulfilling these requirements, talk to Balor again. He'll inform you that the Sealing Scroll will be ready the next day. Once you have it, complete the offering at the altar.

Breaking the seal usually involves a final conversation with the mysterious Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, things don't go as planned. The Priestess urges you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health dwindles, Caldarus appears in his human form to rescue you, then retreats to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.

Caldarus leaves you with the Dragon’s Breath spell, a powerful tool to burn through the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance. This spell also unlocks other hidden areas on the map. To use it, equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu, stand in front of the entrance, and activate the spell to permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other areas.

How To Find Caldarus

After breaking the Fire Seal, you can find Caldarus inside his temple in the Deep Woods. This temple is located north of the Eastern Road on your map, accessible via the Dragon’s Breath spell. Caldarus' exact location is marked on the map like other NPCs, in the northeast corner of the area.

To reach him, enter the Deep Woods and head right, using your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Once past the stump, continue north until you reach the temple. Inside, you'll find Caldarus waiting.

Once the Deep Woods is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel there for just 10 Essence, making visits to Caldarus quick and convenient. Even when you're not physically present, you can interact with him through his statue in spirit.
