Amazon Slashes $50 Off Used PlayStation Portal: New Price Drop

Author: Aria Apr 12,2025

The PlayStation Portal has never been discounted before, but you can now snag a used one at a reduced price. Amazon Resale, formerly known as Amazon Warehouse, currently offers the PlayStation Portal in Used: Like New condition for just $150.23, shipped. This represents a significant 25% savings off the original $199 retail price for a new unit. While a Sony warranty may or may not be included, Amazon Resale items come with the same 30-day return policy as new purchases. Given the popularity of this deal, we anticipate these units will sell out quickly.

Update: The price has now dropped to $150.23, marking the lowest price we've seen for a Used: Like New unit.

The PlayStation Portal is Sony's innovative handheld gaming accessory for the PS5 console. It resembles an extended split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen in the center. This device transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming experience, allowing you to stream games from your console at up to 60fps. The controller replicates the DualSense's features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface in place of the traditional touchpad. The Portal can stream games even when you're away from home, provided you have access to a very stable and fast internet connection. It's important to note that the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it requires a PS5 to function.

Update: You no longer need a PS5 to enjoy games on the PS Portal. Sony has introduced a new feature allowing owners to stream games directly from its PlayStation Now cloud streaming service. This means you can access a library of over 120 games, including titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, without a PS5. To utilize this feature, you must subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which costs $18 per month—a more affordable option compared to purchasing a PS5 and individual games.

It's worth mentioning that the PlayStation Portal isn't the only way to stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi at home. You can achieve similar functionality by using the PS Remote Play app on a mobile device or other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, setting this up is more complicated and you'll miss out on some of the DualSense's unique features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy**

"The PlayStation Portal is a surprisingly delightful device that exceeded my initial skepticism. It offers a significantly better experience than using a phone with a clip-on controller and performs far better than expected. I appreciate the flexibility it provides to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi coverage, especially when the TV is occupied by others playing the Switch. Despite its requirement for a PS5 to function and its current limitations, such as the inability to access WiFi networks that require web browser logins and the lack of Bluetooth audio support, the Portal is the best solution currently available for PlayStation Remote Play. If not for these drawbacks, it would be a must-own for every PS5 owner interested in handheld gaming or those competing for TV time at home."
