Summary

  • Windows 11 update caused issues with two Assassin's Creed games.
  • Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.

Assassin's Creed enthusiasts who encountered difficulties launching their games after a recent Windows update can now breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has released patches for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, resolving the issues that arose following the Windows 11 24H2 update. However, some Ubisoft titles, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey, may still face lingering problems.

Windows frequently rolls out updates to enhance user experience, and the 24H2 update for Windows 11 brought several new features such as Wi-Fi 7 support, enhanced energy-saving modes, and AI Copilot+ PC functionalities. Unfortunately, post-update, some gamers reported that certain games, including those from the Assassin's Creed series, were either failing to launch or experiencing significant performance issues. The newly released fixes should resolve these issues for two of Ubisoft's popular titles.

Ubisoft confirmed that both Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have been updated to address the problems caused by the Windows 11 24H2 update. These updates should automatically download through Steam, allowing the games to function properly once installed. Players should ensure they have sufficient storage space, as the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, while Valhalla's update needs 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games

It remains unclear exactly what component of the Windows 11 24H2 update led to the malfunctioning of certain Ubisoft games. While the fixes for Origins and Valhalla are a welcome relief, some players continue to report issues with other titles. Notably, Assassin's Creed Odyssey has yet to receive a patch and may still experience unresponsiveness or complete failure to launch. Although Ubisoft has previously addressed significant issues with other games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, minor performance hiccups might persist. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 11 until a specific fix is available for their game.

While these patches are a step in the right direction, the initial occurrence of these issues is regrettable. Gamers first noticed problems with various titles when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months ago, yet the issues persisted into the official rollout. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, the majority of games have not been severely affected by this update.
