Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Author: Aaliyah Apr 02,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to their iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has arrived, prompting fans to consider its place among the series' storied lineup. With over 30 games under the Assassin's Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR games, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles diving into the Animus to relive the life of Altaïr, and now, 18 years later, we find ourselves in 16th-century Japan with the dual protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. Assassin's Creed Shadows marks the 14th installment in the core series. I've taken the liberty to rank these games based on my personal enjoyment using an IGN Tier List. Here's a glimpse at my tier list:

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, cherished for its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and vibrant characters, offering the quintessential Assassin's Creed experience. It shares the S-tier with Assassin's Creed 2, the game that truly elevated the series. Valhalla sits comfortably in the A-tier, perhaps a surprising choice, but its Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame won me over. Next to it, Unity impresses with its breathtaking recreation of Paris during the French Revolution, even a decade later.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla overly expansive or believe Assassin's Creed 2 is overrated? You're invited to create your own tier list, categorizing each mainline Assassin's Creed game into S, A, B, C, and D tiers, and compare your rankings with the IGN community.
