Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In Atelier Yumia, there are three distinct forms of Synthesis:

Standard Synthesis performed at an Alchemist’s altar Simple Synthesis accessed via the radial menu Building Synthesis executed in building mode

To create weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and synthesis materials, you must use Regular Synthesis at an Alchemist’s altar. While your Atelier serves as a permanent hub for this task, you can also establish Simple Altars on buildable plots of land—such as those found after clearing manabound zones or at regional campsites—to perform regular Synthesis remotely.

Simple Synthesis is accessible anytime outside of combat through the radial menu. It allows you to craft essential supplies like bandages, zipline gauntlets, and repair kits for treasure chests and ladders, provided you have the necessary resources.

The building mode, also accessed via the radial menu on specific plots, lets Yumia construct storage chests and wall hangings. Although not explicitly labeled as Synthesis in this context, it functions similarly, often referred to as such by the story characters—so don’t be confused by the terminology.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex aspect of crafting. For instance, to craft a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to discover its recipe while exploring. You can enhance existing recipes using particles from mana fountains at Recipe Recall Stations. Once prepared, follow these steps at an Alchemist’s altar:

Choose the desired gun staff variant Select Synthesis Skills (if unlocked in the skill tree) Pick an initial Alchemy Core Effects cores boost selected skills Quality cores raise the item's quality level Trait cores increase available socket slots for Trait Crystals Fill each core’s slots with collected resources Gather mana fragments to further enhance quality Complete the synthesis

To craft powerful items early on, prioritize unlocking Synthesis Skills from the skill tree. These provide significant boosts to damage and quality, allowing you to duplicate items and conserve resources.

You can also add extra resources to all three Alchemy Cores by pressing the left or right bumper while filling slots. Securing mana fragments—the yellow sparkles around each core—will significantly boost your item’s power. This strategy is ideal for most crafts unless you are making a specific quest item.

Additionally, match resource types with corresponding slot elements; matching resources are highlighted with a blue outline. You can organize resources in the submenu to prioritize higher-quality options or focus on effects-based boosts depending on your needs.

If this system feels too complex, use the auto-Synthesis feature after selecting Synthesis Skills. The game will automatically generate the optimal item, enabling you to defeat the final boss—on Normal difficulty—with minimal effort.
