  • Atuel is a documentary-style adventure game with an environmental focus, available now.
  • Discover the iconic Atuel River and learn about its rich history and ecological importance.
  • Experience the river ecosystem from the unique perspectives of the animals that depend on it.

It's fair to say that inspiring genuine concern for environmental issues is one of the major challenges in the fight against climate change. Unfortunately, discussions about emissions and pollution often cause people's attention to drift. However, Atuel, the new interactive documentary experience, may have found a way to capture people's interest and investment.

Named after the Atuel River that flows through the Argentine provinces of Mendoza and La Pampa, Atuel is an exploration of the landscapes and communities surrounding this vital waterway. From a bird's-eye view, you'll survey the vistas, then shapeshift into various animals to explore the ecosystem from a first-person perspective—even becoming part of the river itself at times.

You'll also hear real-life testimonies from local residents and experts about the region, the impact of the global climate crisis, and the profound connection between the land and its people.

A Surreal Journey

While Atuel isn't a fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride, it remains a deeply engaging experience. It features an atmospheric soundtrack by musician Makunouchi Bento and a full Spanish voice-over with subtitles available in nine languages. Atuel aims to immerse players in this Argentine landmark, informing and educating them about the world they live in.

This is especially important given the Atuel River's status as a national landmark for both recreation and nature. Currently, you can play Atuel completely free on Google Play and itch.io (where it first launched), allowing you to experience this surreal environmental adventure firsthand.

While we can't recommend many "green" games, we highly recommend giving this one a try. There are certainly other games that will make you appreciate the challenges of building and sustaining a stable world. For instance, Kingdomino challenges you to construct a thriving kingdom that outshines your opponents, ensuring your rise to supremacy.
