Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Upcoming Crimson Desert
Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The decision maintains the game's multi-platform release strategy.
Maintaining Independence: A Profitable Choice?
Pearl Abyss confirmed its commitment to self-publishing Crimson Desert, a strategy deemed more profitable than a Sony exclusivity agreement. While appreciating ongoing discussions with various partners, the developer emphasized its independent publishing approach, previously announced during a public earnings call. This decision seemingly counters Sony's attempt to secure a PS5 exclusive timed release, which would have temporarily excluded Xbox players.
Upcoming Showcases and Uncertain Release Date
Further solidifying its independent path, Pearl Abyss plans to showcase a playable build of Crimson Desert to media this week in Paris and to the public at G-Star in November. Despite speculation, no official release date has been set. While a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox release is anticipated around Q2 2025, the final platform lineup and launch date remain unconfirmed.
