Bravely Default HD Remaster Preorders Open for Switch

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is set to launch as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive on June 5, coinciding with the new console's release. This enhanced version of the original 2012 Nintendo 3DS game delivers the classic JRPG in high definition, featuring refined graphics, an updated user interface, fast-forward options, and more. Preorders are currently available (check at Target).

The price point is surprisingly affordable, at least from my perspective. The lower cost is partly due to the physical edition not containing the game on the cartridge itself. Instead, it's a "game-key card," which we'll explain in more detail.

Not all Nintendo Switch 2 games are stored fully on their physical cards. This release uses a game-key card. While these cards resemble standard Switch 2 cartridges, they don't hold the actual game data. To play, you must insert the card and download the 11GB game from the eShop.

You can still share or resell the physical card with a friend. However, the card must be inserted into your console to access and play the downloaded game.

What is Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster?

The original Bravely Default on the 3DS was a nostalgic RPG, featuring turn-based combat and a quest centered on restoring four elemental crystals. Its standout feature is the innovative combat system, allowing characters to store turns for powerful multi-action bursts. The game also includes a deep job system for customizing party members' abilities.

This HD remaster retains all those core elements while adding several improvements. Alongside faster battle speeds, you can now skip through cutscenes. The adjustable encounter rate still lets you control how often you face enemies. New additions include online functionality and fresh minigames.
