Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is pushing back its inaugural in-game event to allocate time for crucial quality-of-life improvements. In a development update posted on February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games shared a roadmap outlining the high-level plans for the title's next update.

Update 1.1.0 is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, for PC and consoles, with a separate launch window for the Nintendo Switch. While the first in-game event, the Natural Wonder Battle, was initially planned for this release, Firaxis announced its postponement. The studio stated, "Although our first in-game Event*, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since its early access period, the game has received mixed reviews, with particular criticism directed at the user interface. Firaxis Games acknowledged this feedback, previously commenting, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

The imminent Civ 7 update will directly address community feedback and suggestions. While the full patch notes will be published at launch, Firaxis has previewed some key changes players can expect.

A new free natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added for players to discover. Highly anticipated UI adjustments are also coming, aimed at resolving player concerns. Furthermore, significant changes will be made to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions, as AI leaders will become more proficient at achieving a Cultural Victory.

The update will also launch the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection. According to the announcement, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."

Next Major Update Planned for Late March 2025

The development of Civ 7 continues with another major update currently slated for March 25, 2025, though this date remains tentative. UI improvements will remain a core focus. The studio explained, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continue to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Looking beyond March, Firaxis plans to introduce further refinements. These include a "one more turn" feature allowing play beyond the Modern Age, an auto-explore function, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), multiplayer support updates, and more.

The developer noted, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
