Author: Penelope Apr 15,2025

If there's one thing you can say about mobile developer AppSir, it's that their games are always worth a look. From our glowing review of Spooky Pixel Hero to their latest quirky one-bit platformer, Climb Knight, AppSir consistently delivers unique indie fun that resonates with gamers. And now, Climb Knight is set to receive a significant update on February 25th, which will be completely free!

You might be thinking, "Didn't you already cover Climb Knight?" Indeed, we did, and we gave it a fairly positive review. Interestingly, the team at AppSir was pleasantly surprised by the reception their game received. In celebration, they're rolling out an update that includes three new one-bit minigames and introduces a mysterious advisor character, inspired by Apple Newton shareware. Given AppSir's track record with spooky releases, it's likely that there's more to this advisor and the new gameplay than meets the eye.

ytClimbing upAppSir showcases that a dedicated indie developer can break the mold and still achieve popularity on mobile platforms. While they may not be the new blood of smartphones, their approach and style bear similarities to the excellent Faith trilogy, especially in the spooky, retro aesthetic of their back catalog.

If you're curious about our thoughts on Spooky Pixel Hero, it's another excellent release that's definitely worth playing. For more insights into what the developer Darius had to say about the reception to Climb Knight, check out his latest blog post.
