If you're a fan of word games, chances are you've encountered Codenames at some point. This beloved board game, centered around spies and secret agents, is now available as a mobile app. Originally designed by Vlaada Chvátil, the digital version is published by CGE Digital.
What Are Codenames?
In Codenames, you and your team are tasked with uncovering secret agents hidden behind code names, guided by one-word clues from your spymaster. The objective is to correctly identify the right words, avoid bystanders, and crucially, steer clear of the assassin.
This multiplayer game pits two teams against each other in a battle of wits, with each team trying to guess which words on the grid conceal their agents. You use a single clue that connects multiple words. The challenge lies in reading between the lines and outsmarting the opposing team.
The digital version of Codenames brings new words, game modes, and achievements to unlock. It even includes a career mode where you can level up, earn rewards, and unlock special gadgets as you progress.
One of the best features is the asynchronous multiplayer option, allowing players up to 24 hours to make their move. This means you can start multiple games simultaneously, challenge players from around the world, and even tackle daily solo challenges.

It’s Still A Guessing Game!
In the game, you're presented with a grid of cards on your screen, and your task is to tap the ones you believe are hiding your agents. Correct guesses flip the cards, revealing the agents. However, selecting the assassin card results in an immediate loss for your team.
Managing multiple games at once can be challenging, but that's part of the fun! As you improve, you'll have the opportunity to take on the role of the spymaster, the one who provides the clues.
