In the latest wave of "here comes a new remake" news—or, for the more optimistic among us, "here comes another Stephen King movie" news—Netflix is gearing up to unleash a fresh adaptation of the classic tale, Cujo. According to Deadline, the streaming giant has enlisted Vertigo Entertainment's founder and producer Roy Lee to bring this project to life. However, it's still in the early stages, with no writers, directors, or cast members attached yet.

Stephen King's novel Cujo hit the shelves in 1981 and was swiftly transformed into a 1983 cult classic horror film by Don Carlos Dunaway and Barbara Turner, directed by Lewis Teague. The gripping story centers on a determined mother (portrayed by Dee Wallace) who faces a harrowing ordeal to protect her young son from a rabid dog. Trapped in a car with a dead engine, the duo must battle for survival as Cujo, once a gentle pet now turned deadly after a bat bite, relentlessly stalks them from outside, with the added threat of heatstroke looming over them.

Oz Perkins’ take on King’s short story The Monkey was released in February, and fans can look forward to Glen Powell's version of The Running Man and JT Mollner’s adaptation of The Long Walk (also produced by Lee and Vertigo) later this year. Additionally, the IT prequel series Welcome to Derry is set to premiere on HBO. The iconic Carrie, another Stephen King classic, is being reimagined as an eight-episode series on Prime Video, helmed by horror maestro Mike Flanagan.

Stephen King enthusiasts have been feasting on a rich array of adaptations lately, and with Cujo on the horizon, there's even more to savor.
