Author: Brooklyn May 15,2025

Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just unveiled an exciting roadmap for Destiny 2, heralding the "Year of Prophecy" with a lineup of two new expansions and substantial seasonal and core game updates for both paying and free players.

The "Year of Prophecy" marks the first year featuring four significant content releases, including two paid expansions and two major updates accessible to all players. Kicking things off is the Rite of the Nine, a free update that offers a fresh dungeon-diving experience for both seasoned and novice players. This update includes familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep, but with unique twists and refreshed dungeon weapons, alongside the chance to reconnect with Orin.

On July 15, the first paid expansion, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, will launch, marking the beginning of a multiyear saga intertwined with the mysterious Nine. This expansion introduces new characters Lodi and Ikora, and a new destination, Kepler, designed to challenge players with puzzle-solving and deep exploration. Expect new enemies, weapons, gear, and unique destination-specific abilities.

Alongside The Edge of Fate, major core game innovations will debut on July 15, featuring revised armor and gear systems for enhanced buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This update allows players to choose between Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, designed for solo players seeking short, self-contained gameplay sessions. With 50 new modifiers and curated activity rotations, players can tailor their experience to match their gameplay preferences and desired rewards.

Pre-order bonuses for the new expansions include instant unlocks such as an Exotic Ghost and Legendary Emblem. Here's a detailed breakdown of the pre-order options:

Following The Edge of Fate, a second major update, Ash & Iron, will launch on September 9, with the Renegades expansion debuting on December 2. The year will conclude with the Shadow & Order update on March 3.

Destiny 2: Renegades, the second expansion of the Year of Prophecy, draws inspiration from the legendary Star Wars universe, blending Destiny’s unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements. This news comes as a welcome update for players, especially following the layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, which was less than a year after another round of 100 layoffs at Bungie.

Amidst these developments, Bungie continues to work on other projects, including the reboot of the classic franchise Marathon, which was revealed in May 2023. In IGN's Marathon hands-on preview, it was noted that the game is shaping up to be a promising PvP experience set to launch on PC and consoles in September.
