Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature poisonous swamps

Elden Ring Nightreign, the cooperative action game, will notably omit the poisonous swamps characteristic of FromSoftware titles. This was confirmed by product manager Yasuhiro Kitao during a press briefing. While a swamp-like area appeared in the trailer, Kitao clarified it's a distinct location. He attributed the absence of traditional poisonous swamps to the lack of involvement from Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware's head and a known enthusiast of swamp environments featured prominently in Elden Ring and the Dark Souls series. Miyazaki's absence from Nightreign's development accounts for this omission.

Interestingly, a two-player mode remains a possibility. Currently, only one-player and three-player modes are confirmed, with the exclusion of a two-player option initially cited as a content balancing challenge. FromSoftware is currently evaluating the feasibility of adding a two-player mode to Elden Ring Nightreign, but a final decision is pending.

Elden Ring Nightreign is slated for release on May 30, 2025, for PC and current and next-generation consoles.
