"Emio: The Smiling Man and Gundam Breaker 4 Released, Plus More"

Author: Bella May 02,2025

Hello, gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today, we're diving into a hefty lineup of new releases, which is the main focus of our Thursday column. We also have a substantial list of new sales to explore. While we can't have Nintendo Directs every day, there's still plenty to keep us engaged. Let's jump into the games!

Select New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

After decades without a sequel, Famicom Detective Club makes a triumphant return. This new installment stays true to the original games, offering a fresh mystery to solve. With a presentation reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes, can you crack the latest serial murder case? Stay tuned for my upcoming review.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail has penned an extensive review of this game, so for a detailed look at its gameplay and performance on the Switch, be sure to check it out. In short, you'll be building and battling Gunplas. While the Switch version may not match the performance of other platforms, it still delivers a solid experience. Mikhail's review is a must-read.

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project has excelled with its remakes, including Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors, and Pocky & Rocky Reshrined. Now, they're reimagining the 8-bit classic Shadow of the Ninja. Expect a more significant departure from the source material, but if you're craving a classic-style action-platformer, this should hit the spot. Look out for my review early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

Following up on Valfaris, this sequel shifts genres to a 2.5D side-scrolling shoot 'em up. It's a solid entry in the genre, though some fans were surprised by the change. Embrace the new style, and you'll find much to enjoy. Another game on my review list, so stay tuned!

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'm not entirely sure what to make of this game, but the visuals of the food are certainly appealing. It seems you're meant to interact with the food, perhaps taking photos or uncovering secrets. I might enlist Mikhail to delve deeper into this intriguing title.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

If you're into monster trucks, Monster Jam Showdown might be for you. It offers a variety of modes and supports both local and online multiplayer. While it has received mixed reviews on other platforms, it's a notable option for fans of the genre.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

I believe this is a remake of the original WitchSpring, though I could be mistaken. Historically, WitchSpring served as a mobile alternative to Atelier. With its price now nearing that of an Atelier game, its appeal might be less clear. However, if you're interested, it's the most visually appealing WitchSpring to date.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

This undersea exploration game offers a fantastical horror experience. You'll navigate a dangerous underwater world to uncover the fate of your missing crew. Well-received on other platforms, it should find a strong audience on the Switch.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

Voltaire, a young vampire, rebels against his father by embracing veganism. This leads to farming and action as he fends off his father's interference. Though I'm a bit fatigued with farming games, it could be a fun pick for those with more energy for this genre.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A marble roller game with seventy stages and eighty marbles to collect, this title also includes secret collectibles and special challenges. If you enjoy the thrill of racing marbles without flying off the track, this game is packed with content.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

While many firefighting games on the Switch aim for realism, Leo: The Firefighter Cat targets a younger audience. With twenty missions, it covers the essentials and could be a great fit for kids interested in firefighting.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

This grotesque action game features a hoverboarding cat slicing through enemies. The Switch version suffers from technical issues that impact the experience, but it's still enjoyable if you can overlook the frame rate hiccups.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

This 1985 Konami vertical shooter features a transforming robot hero. It's a charming entry in the genre, offering a nostalgic experience for fans of early shooters.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack, Xanadu Scenario II introduces a new underworld to explore. Notably, it marks the debut of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro, making it a must-have for gaming history enthusiasts.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

Combining horror, survival, and roguelite elements, this game has been well-received on PC. Ideal for up to ten players online, it offers a unique experience, though solo play may feel repetitive.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

As a sentient tin can, you'll solve puzzles involving worms in this clever game. With one hundred hand-crafted puzzles and a fresh approach to each level, it's a standout for puzzle enthusiasts.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

These modern NES games emulate Wario Ware-style microgames with a ninja twist. They're competitive, offering local multiplayer or CPU battles, and it's fascinating to see them run on NES specs.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

This unassuming game offers two modes: one with falling blocks like Tetris, and another where you place pieces. Your goal is to make rows or columns that sum to ten or multiples of ten. It's simple yet engaging.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of The King of Fighters, Hamster and SNK are offering a sale on all Arcade Archives titles in the series. It's the perfect time to complete your collection. Additionally, Pixel Game Maker Series games are at their lowest prices yet, making it an excellent opportunity to grab those you've been eyeing. Beyond these, there are some good indie deals worth checking out.

That's all for today, friends. We'll be back tomorrow to wrap up the week with the remaining new releases, sales, and major news items. Maybe we'll even have some reviews? We'll see. A huge typhoon is blowing through this week, and there's a chance I might not make it to the office to write tomorrow's article. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I hope you all have a thrilling Thursday, and as always, thanks for reading!
