"Evil Dead: Game Removed from Stores 3 Years Post-Launch, Servers Stay Online"

The curtains have fallen on Evil Dead: The Game, as its publisher, Saber Interactive, has started to remove it from digital storefronts. Launched in 2022, this asymmetric multiplayer game captivated fans of the iconic action horror franchise on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. IGN's review gave it an impressive 8/10, praising it for its thrilling gameplay despite its rough edges, mirroring the essence of the horror/comedy films that inspired it.

Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition a year after its debut, the game struggled to maintain its player base. The cancellation of the Nintendo Switch version and the halt of content development in September 2023 were clear indicators of its declining fortunes. Now, three years post-launch, Evil Dead: The Game is no longer available for purchase. However, existing owners can breathe a sigh of relief as the game's servers will remain active, allowing continued play.

Saber Interactive shared the news on the game’s Steam page, stating:

We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.

The decision has been met with a wave of negative reviews on the game's Steam page, with many players mourning the game's effective demise. It currently holds a 'mixed' user review rating. Amidst the negativity, one positive review stands out, from a dedicated player with over 380 hours of gameplay, who noted, "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."

Saber Interactive, known for their work on last year's hit Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, continues to expand their portfolio with upcoming licensed movie games. Fans can look forward to titles such as John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game, Turok: Origins, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3.
