Navigating the vast and often desolate Synthwave landscapes of the Overgrowth in Hyper Light Breaker can be challenging, but fear not—your trusty Hoverboard is here to transform your journey. Although the game doesn't explicitly guide you through this, you have access to the Hyper Light Breaker Hoverboard right from the start, which serves as a vital tool for swiftly traversing the expansive world.
The Hoverboard essentially acts as the game's sprint mechanic, allowing you to cover large distances quickly while your Energy depletes at a manageable pace. This guide will walk you through how to summon and ride your Hoverboard, as well as explore its unique features that go beyond mere transportation.
How To Summon A Hoverboard In Hyper Light Breaker
To summon and sprint with your Hoverboard, simply hold down the Dodge input. Your character will dash forward and seamlessly transition onto the Hoverboard as long as you keep the Dodge button pressed.
Controlling the Hoverboard is straightforward. By tilting the left analog stick, you can lean and gradually turn in the desired direction. At top speeds, turning can be sluggish, but it becomes much more manageable at lower speeds.
To dismount the Hoverboard, release the Dodge input. Additionally, the Hoverboard will automatically disappear if your Energy runs out while you're riding it.
Keep an eye on your current Energy level, displayed next to your Breaker's companion. If your Energy gets low, take a moment to jump off and allow it to recover, preventing an unexpected dismount.
Hoverboard Movement Tips & Special Uses
While you can't perform tricks or attack while on the Hoverboard, Hyper Light Breaker imbues it with several useful attributes. One key feature is its ability to float on water, allowing you to traverse inlets and rivers that you'd otherwise need to circumvent.
Remember, you can't summon the Hoverboard while already submerged. You need to be riding it as you enter the water to glide across the surface. No matter your entry speed or jump height, the Hoverboard will swiftly return to the surface, keeping your journey smooth.
Another useful technique is holding down the default Jump input while on the Hoverboard to duck and prepare for a jump. Although you can't double-jump on the Hoverboard, the increased speed can help you leap across wider gaps than usual. Ducking doesn't boost your speed or jump height, but it's perfect for timing those challenging jumps accurately.
