Konami's Silent Hill f Welcomes New and Veteran Gamers

Silent Hill f is not a direct sequel to any previous Silent Hill game. Like Silent Hill 2, it presents a self-contained narrative that is "independent from the series."

This comes directly from publisher Konami, which confirmed via X/Twitter that the latest horror installment—typically set in a quiet American resort town—will be "a completely new title" that "even newcomers to the series can enjoy."

This standalone approach isn't unprecedented for Silent Hill. While Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill Origins share direct connections, other entries—most notably Silent Hill 2—have looser ties to the town. Parts of Silent Hill 4: The Room and Homecoming even occur outside the titular location. Konami's statement definitively confirms that understanding Silent Hill f's 1960s Japan setting won't require knowledge of the 26-year-old franchise.

Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f follows teenager Shimizu Hinako as she navigates overwhelming pressure from friends, family, and society. The story comes from Ryukishi07, creator of the When They Cry visual novel series. As shown in the Japanese reveal trailer last March, it will be the first Silent Hill game to receive an 18+ rating in Japan.

Although still in development (so ratings may change), previous titles like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all earned CERO:C (ages 15+), while internationally developed series entries typically received CERO:C or CERO:D (17+). Silent Hill f carries equivalent mature ratings: Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan.

No release date has been announced for Silent Hill f, and there remains no additional information about No Code's upcoming project, Townfall.
