Jason Momoa is set to bring the iconic DC character Lobo to life in the upcoming 2026 film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an alien mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, boasts superhuman strength and immortality. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, the character first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. As the last survivor of his planet, much like Superman, Lobo's backstory adds a rich layer to his character.
Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is enthusiastic about joining the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as Lobo. He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character and that the role is a perfect fit due to aesthetic similarities between himself and the character.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his excitement and nervousness about portraying Lobo, emphasizing his deep connection to the character. He hinted at Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, noting that while fans will get a good look at the character, his screen time will be brief. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa said. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
When asked about the extent of Lobo's role in the film, Momoa clarified, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although it didn’t reveal much. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming had begun for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.
The movie is heavily based on the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, making it the second film in the new DCU following James Gunn's Superman, which hits theaters this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for September 2026.
