Longvinter Leaves Early Access, Rivals Animal Crossing on PC

After three years of development, incorporating player feedback, and squashing bugs, Longvinter has officially left early access on Steam with its full 1.0 release. The development team celebrated this milestone by rolling out substantial updates to breathe new life into the experience for both veterans and newcomers alike.

Major Gameplay Additions

The most significant addition is the introduction of oil rigs scattered across the archipelago. Players can now drill for crude oil, process it into fuel, and engage in tactical battles against LRI mercenaries who dominate the supply routes. New dynamic events include helicopter crash sites containing tactical equipment and an underground arena hosting hourly combat tournaments with valuable prizes.

Enhanced Open World Experience

The wilderness now teems with diverse wildlife including lynxes, wolves, wolverines, foxes, moose, and goats - all of which can be domesticated as mounts. The update introduces numerous new items including stat-boosting headgear, tactical vests, an expanded arsenal of weapons and explosives, along with culinary recipes and interactive decor items like oil refineries, kitchen appliances, power infrastructure, and automated turrets.

Combat Adjustments and Future Plans

The development team has implemented significant weapon balancing changes to improve combat dynamics. Looking forward, the scheduled 1.1 update will introduce agricultural systems, an improved tutorial for new players, tenant housing mechanics, and communal living spaces. The studio also confirmed Longvinter will expand to PlayStation platforms in 2026, bringing the survival experience to console audiences.
