Capcom has unveiled exciting new gameplay footage of their upcoming 2026 action game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Fans were thrilled to learn that the protagonist of this latest installment is none other than the legendary Japanese swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.

During the PlayStation State of Play event, Capcom showcased an enticing trailer that highlighted the sword-based action gameplay and the formidable enemies players will encounter. Although Onimusha: Way of the Sword is slated for release in 2026, the preview suggests that the wait will be worth it, promising intense and visually stunning combat sequences.

Miyamoto Musashi, renowned for his exceptional swordsmanship, takes center stage in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The trailer not only showcased his unmatched sword skills but also offered a glimpse into his roguish and comedic personality, adding depth to his character. Capcom's press release describes the game as a dark fantasy action title featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's appearance in the game is inspired by the iconic Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who famously portrayed Musashi in several samurai films.

Set in a Kyoto overtaken by an evil force called Malic, which is summoning Hell and its inhabitants into Japan, Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the first new entry in the Onimusha series in two decades. To build anticipation for this new release, Capcom has also announced a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, set to launch on May 23, 2025.
