Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location; it necessitates robust defenses. This guide focuses on a fundamental yet effective method: barricading windows.
Barricading Windows in Project Zomboid
To effectively board up a window, ensure you possess the necessary materials: one wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once gathered, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for increased protection.
Resource Acquisition
Hammers and nails are typically found in locations where one would expect to find such tools: toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar areas. Wooden planks are commonly located at construction sites, or, in a pinch, can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture like shelves or chairs. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks installed, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll require a claw hammer or crowbar for this action.
Limitations
Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as window barriers; characters and zombies will pass through them. However, understanding furniture manipulation remains valuable for interior design.
Advanced Defenses
While wooden planks offer basic protection, stronger barricades can be constructed using metal bars or sheets. However, this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
