Before you cast your line, it's crucial to accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman, the white-haired NPC located at one of the piers near the Baracuda. Simon will ask you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll clarify the quotation marks later).

Here's the catch: to reel in any fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman has exactly what you need.

So, purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon. Most players suggest starting with at least 5 worms, but we opted for 10 to be on the safe side. Just so you know, you don't equip the bait. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory, and though you don't manually equip them, they're used automatically when you fish. Each time you catch a fish, a Worm is removed from your inventory.

And here's a crucial detail: you won't catch anything unless you have at least 5 bait items. We initially tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Once we had 5 Worms, we started reeling in fish. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep track of your supply. With these essentials sorted, you're ready for the next step.

First, select your Wood Fishing Rod. You can't equip it, so just place it in your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it ready.

Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water (the pier by Simon the Fisherman works well).

Next, keep an eye on the bobber. When you see one or two ripples, click M1 again to reel in your catch. It's that simple.

This method isn't foolproof. Often, you won't catch anything at all. Sometimes, you'll pull up junk, but the good news is Simon counts junk as a catch (hence the quotation marks around "fish").

Essentially, cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and aim to catch anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, the rest were Old Cups.

Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to save inventory space for more important items.
