Sonic Rumble marks the first foray into a multiplayer party game for the series, where up to 32 players can compete in various levels and gameplay modes. The game's setting, a toy world crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, challenges players to navigate through perilous obstacle courses and intense arenas.

Given its free-to-play model, there were initial concerns about potential pay-to-win elements. However, Sonic Rumble's Director, Makoto Tase, addressed these worries during an interview at the Tokyo Game Show 2024.
