Sony Unlocks Cinematic Adaptations for Helldivers 2, Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The announcement was made at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film adaptation of our immensely popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences in this cinematic adaptation of Arrowhead Studio's Helldivers 2, a shooter reminiscent of Starship Troopers.

The game itself achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, with 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. This success was further amplified by the Illuminate update, which reintroduced a fan-favorite enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

Further expanding PlayStation's cinematic universe, a film based on Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the 2022 Uncharted film). Qizilbash offered a preliminary glimpse into this project: "We're in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment."
