Feral Interactive has launched a significant update for Total War MEDIEVAL II on Android, introducing the highly anticipated Hotseats and Halberds update. This release enhances both multiplayer functionality and core combat mechanics, bringing a deeper, more strategic experience to mobile players.
The Desktop Version of Kingdoms Comes to Mobile
The standout feature of this update is the introduction of Hotseat multiplayer, previously exclusive to the Kingdoms expansion on desktop. Now, for the first time on mobile, Hotseat mode is available across both the Kingdoms campaigns and the Grand Campaign.
Players can take turns on a single device, each commanding their chosen faction in a shared game. Whether you're teaming up cooperatively or battling head-to-head, the mode supports flexible play styles. A new Battle Royale mode also debuts, offering alternative victory conditions for faster, more dynamic matches.
Enhanced Combat Mechanics
The update introduces a revamped Cohesion system for Pikemen, addressing a long-standing gameplay issue. Previously, pikemen would quickly break formation and switch to melee weapons after minor losses. Now, they maintain their pike wall more effectively unless suffering heavy casualties, making them far more resilient on the battlefield.
Halberdiers have been reworked to serve as a viable late-game alternative to traditional spearmen. Their improved performance against heavily armored infantry makes them a crucial asset in the late medieval era.
Additionally, two-handed weapon units—including Zweihanders, Daneaxe wielders, and club-wielding infantry—have received balance updates. These units now feature the new cohesion-disruption trait, weakening enemy formations upon impact, along with combat stat buffs that reflect their role as elite melee troops.
Refined Gunpowder, Naval, and Unit Balance
Gunpowder units like Arquebusiers and Musketeers have undergone key improvements. Their previous "fire-by-rank" behavior often slowed their rate of fire and effectiveness. Now, firing mechanics have been optimized, making them more competitive with ranged units like crossbowmen and archers.
Naval warfare has also been adjusted, with changes to the movement speed of late-era ships, improving fleet dynamics. Several late medieval knight units that fight without shields have had their defense values rebalanced for greater realism and fairness.
The Ribault artillery units have been fine-tuned as well, ensuring they perform consistently within the broader context of siege and field combat.
This update makes Total War MEDIEVAL II on mobile the most complete and feature-rich version yet.
