A planned but unannounced paid DLC for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy has been canceled, according to a recent report from Bloomberg. The expansion was set to be released this year, alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game, which would have further enriched the Harry Potter adventure experience.
However, Warner Bros. (WB) decided to cancel the DLC this week. The decision was reportedly influenced by concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered," as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for a comment on this matter.
This cancellation comes at a time when Warner Bros. is actively restructuring its gaming division amid financial challenges. Earlier in the year, the company made significant moves by canceling its planned Wonder Woman game, shutting down Monolith Productions—the studio behind it—as well as WB San Diego and the studio behind MultiVersus, Player First Games. Additionally, WB laid off employees at Rocksteady Studios just last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. has consistently highlighted Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has affirmed that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts focus towards fewer but larger franchises. This statement underscores the significance of the game, which has impressively sold over 30 million copies.
