bimmer-tool: Your BMW's Diagnostic Companion

bimmer-tool provides comprehensive diagnostic capabilities for BMW vehicles, including fault code reading and clearing, DPF regeneration initiation, and live engine data monitoring.

For pre-2008 models, functionality is somewhat limited, and a K+DCan USB cable is the recommended connection method. Wireless ELM adapter compatibility may be inconsistent or feature-restricted with these older vehicles.

Essential: A reliable OBD adapter is required. We recommend the following:

• ELM327 Bluetooth (May be slower; genuine ELM327 or PIC18-based adapters only. Compatibility with older engines may be limited.)

Quick Start Guide:

1. Connect the adapter to the OBD II port.
2. Turn the ignition on.
3. Connect the adapter to your phone (USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi—instructions vary by adapter type).
4. Launch the app, select your car's make and model year.
5. Choose your connection type, adapter type, and communication protocol.
6. Tap "Connect."

**Limitations apply to pre-2008 models and certain chassis (e46/e39/e83/e53), requiring K+DCan and supporting only the engine ECU. Wireless ELM adapter connection may fail.

Troubleshooting:

• "No response" error (pre-2007 vehicles, BT/WiFi): Try selecting the "ATWM" option in advanced connection settings.
• No connection: Ensure correct adapter and protocol settings; force-stop diagnostic apps (including bimmer-tool) or restart your phone.

Permission Rationale:

The app requires permissions for storage (USB adapter support), media access (CSV file creation), Bluetooth access (Bluetooth adapters), network access (WiFi adapters), and approximate location (theoretically possible via Bluetooth, but not used).
