Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Skyrockets Player Count

Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has just released its final major update, Patch 8, marking the end of an epic journey for this beloved RPG. Launched on April 15, 2025, by Larian Studios, this update has significantly boosted the game's player count, propelling it just outside Steam's top 10 most played games. Steam Player Count Goes Up After Patch 8 Release
Larian Studios' CEO, Swen Vincke, took to social media on April 22 to comment on the surge in player numbers post-Patch 8. He highlighted the thriving mod support as a key factor that allows the studio to shift focus to their next big project. It's been confirmed that Larian Studios is stepping away from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe to explore new creative avenues.
With Larian's departure, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, the owners of D&D, will continue the Baldur’s Gate series. They are currently in discussions with other studios to potentially develop a Baldur’s Gate 4.
