Reputable gaming journalist Jason Schreier reports that the celebrated Rocksteady Studios is developing a new, single-player Batman game.

Specifics are limited; Schreier hasn't confirmed if it's a prequel, a sequel to the Arkham series, or a completely separate storyline. However, a source suggests Rocksteady is creating a Batman Beyond title, placing players in a futuristic Gotham City. Their goal? A full trilogy. The game's release is anticipated on next-generation consoles.

The Arkham series was lauded for its stunning graphics, and a futuristic Gotham could be Rocksteady's most visually impressive project yet. The Batman Beyond setting also cleverly addresses the challenge of recasting Batman's voice. Following the passing of Kevin Conroy in 2022, the studio might focus on Terry McGinnis or Damian Wayne – a similar approach considered by Warner Bros. Montreal for their canceled Arkham Knight sequel.

Rocksteady's previous title faced difficulties; the online shooter wasn't well-received, leading to the project's failure. Post-launch plans were abandoned within a year, concluding the narrative with a hastily produced animated short that retconned controversial plot elements, revealing that seemingly deceased heroes were actually clones.

Rocksteady is now returning to its strengths, creating a new solo Batman experience. However, industry sources caution that the game is still several years from release.
