CD Projekt Red has announced that Ciri will take center stage in the eagerly anticipated *The Witcher 4*, marking a significant yet logical shift in the series' narrative. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explained that this transition from Geralt to Ciri aligns with the evolution of the game series and honors the direction set by Andrzej Sapkowski's original works.
Mitrega pointed out that Geralt's story reached its conclusion in *The Witcher 3*, setting the stage for Ciri to emerge with her immense potential. Given her well-developed character in both the books and games, Ciri's depth and complexity offer developers a canvas for new and exciting creative opportunities. Director Sebastian Kalemba added that Ciri's younger age provides players with greater freedom to shape her character, an aspect that was not possible with the more established Geralt.
Interestingly, the idea of changing the protagonist was on the table nearly a decade ago, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision of Ciri as Geralt's natural successor. Kalemba also highlighted that the fresh challenges and perspectives Ciri faces will contribute to crafting a new epic saga.
Actor Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, endorsed the move to focus on Ciri, acknowledging her rich potential as a central character. While Geralt will make appearances in the new game, he will no longer be the main focus, reinforcing the shift to a new narrative perspective.
