At the start of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll choose from three classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. This guide helps you decide which best suits your playstyle.

Which Citizen Sleeper 2 Class Should You Choose?

The ideal class depends on your preferred gameplay. Based on a completed playthrough, here's a breakdown of each, considering abilities and roleplaying potential.

Operator

The Operator starts with a +Interface, base Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer. Endure cannot be leveled up. Their ability lets them gain Stress to re-roll their lowest die.

While powerful later, the Operator can struggle early on. Interface is a strong skill, but the initial difficulty and the less-than-ideal re-roll ability make it a middle-of-the-road choice. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator is versatile, fitting various character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist begins with a +Engineer, base Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage cannot be leveled up. Their ability trades Stress for +2 to their lowest die, also losing 2 Stress on a positive outcome. Later abilities further enhance dice rolls and Stress reduction.

My personal favorite, the Machinist's ability proved incredibly useful. The game frequently requires Engineer and Interface checks, areas where crew support often falls short. The initial Stress reduction is a significant advantage, as Stress management is crucial. Roleplaying-wise, this class suits those interested in the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor starts with a +Endure, base Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit cannot be leveled up. Their ability uses Stress to add +2 to the crew's lowest die, with upgrades boosting crew member rolls.

The Extractor's ability is highly effective for managing Contracts and mitigating risks. The initial Endure bonus is valuable, as Endure checks are frequent. However, I often found myself with crew members already skilled in Endure and Engage. Roleplaying-wise, this class is perfect for a tough, resilient character.
