The strategic tower defense game, Code Geass: Lost Stories, based on the popular anime and manga franchise Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, is closing its doors to global mobile players. While the Japanese version will continue, the global servers are shutting down. Developed by f4samurai and DMM Games, and published by Komoe, the game launched globally in September 2023, falling short of its first anniversary.
Shutdown Date
Code Geass: Lost Stories will officially shut down on August 29th, 2024. After this date, player accounts will be inaccessible. The game's official global social media accounts will also be closed on the same day. In-app purchases and new downloads have already been disabled.
Reasons for Shutdown
While the developers haven't explicitly stated the reasons for the shutdown, low download numbers and less-than-stellar global reviews are likely contributing factors. Many licensed anime gacha games struggle to maintain a substantial player base outside of Japan, where player spending tends to be higher. The game's blend of RPG, action, and tower defense elements, while appealing to some, apparently wasn't enough to sustain a global audience.
Japanese players can still access and enjoy the game on the Google Play Store.
