As anticipated, EA is considering the Nintendo Switch 2 as a platform for its game portfolio. During a recent earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson was directly questioned about Nintendo's next-generation console and indicated the company intends to launch multiple titles on the platform.
Wilson specifically highlighted EA's profitable sports series, Madden and FC, as having potential for "significant momentum" on the Nintendo Switch 2, while also mentioning The Sims as another title that could perform strongly on the new hardware.
"Whenever a new console enters the market that works to our advantage, it provides us with opportunities to reach and attract new audiences," Wilson stated. "Historically, our franchises have seen considerable success on Nintendo platforms. We anticipate that games like FC, Madden, and others could gain strong traction on this system, similar to past performance."
"Considering titles such as The Sims and the My Sims cozy bundle, which exceeded our projections, 50% of all players were completely new to EA. This represents a significant growth opportunity for our company.
"While we haven't incorporated specific projections into our current models, we generally expect that any major new console entering the market that expands our reach to new players and communities will benefit from our established intellectual property."
While the announcement of Madden and FC coming to Nintendo Switch 2 isn't particularly surprising, fans are likely curious about what specific versions they'll experience on the console. Historically, EA has released what it terms "legacy" editions of FIFA on Nintendo Switch, though recent efforts with the rebranded FC series have aimed for feature parity with other platforms. Given the Switch 2's anticipated performance improvements over its predecessor, future installments like FC 26 could closely resemble their PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts.
Following Nintendo's official confirmation of the Switch 2, we're gradually forming a clearer picture of its potential game library. Numerous third-party titles are rumored for the console, and in discussions with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis expressed interest in the Switch 2's reported Joy-Con mouse functionality, describing it as "definitely intriguing." French gaming company Nacon, publisher of titles including Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has Switch 2 games in development. Additionally, the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is reportedly planned for release on Switch 2.
Regarding Nintendo's own development efforts, we know the company is working on a new Mario Kart installment. More information is expected during a Nintendo Direct presentation scheduled for April.
