Exciting news is on the horizon for fans of *The Elder Scrolls* series, as Bethesda is reportedly gearing up to announce a remake of *The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion* in the coming weeks, with a release following shortly thereafter. Renowned leaker NatetheHate, known for accurately predicting the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, took to Twitter to share that the Oblivion remake could be unveiled as early as this month or next, a claim that has been backed by VGC. While the release timeline remains somewhat uncertain, NatetheHate suggests a release before June, with VGC hinting at a potential launch as soon as April.

Earlier this year, Mp1st reported on seemingly accidental leaks by a former employee of Virtuos, a video game support studio, revealing details about the Oblivion remake. Microsoft, when approached by IGN for comment, chose not to respond. According to Mp1st, the remake leverages Unreal Engine 5, indicating a comprehensive overhaul rather than a simple remaster. The game reportedly features significant gameplay modifications, including adjustments to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reactions, and the user interface (HUD).

Mp1st's report detailed how the Blocking mechanic has been redesigned with inspiration from action games and Soulslikes, addressing the original's perceived "boring" and "frustrating" nature. Sneak mechanics have been enhanced with clearer icons and revamped damage calculations. The depletion of Stamina now results in a harder-to-achieve knockdown effect. The HUD has been streamlined for better user comprehension, while hit reactions have been added to improve the game's responsiveness. Archery has also been updated for both first and third-person perspectives.

Rumors of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023 following the leak of documents from the FTC versus Microsoft trial over the Activision Blizzard acquisition. These documents, which were prepared in July 2020 before Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media in March 2021, listed several unannounced Bethesda projects, including an *Oblivion Remaster* slated for the 2022 financial year. Other titles mentioned included an Indiana Jones game, *Doom Year Zero* and its DLC, *Project Kestrel*, *Project Platinum*, *The Elder Scrolls 6*, *Fallout 3 Remaster*, a *Ghostwire: Tokyo* sequel, *Dishonored 3*, and additional *DOOM Year Zero* DLC spread across subsequent financial years.

While several projects faced delays or cancellations, *Doom Year Zero* evolved into *Doom: The Dark Ages* with a May release date, and *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle* launched in December 2024. *The Elder Scrolls 6* did not meet its initially projected timeline. The document referred to the Oblivion project as a *remaster*, but it appears Bethesda may have expanded its scope to a full remake. The gaming community eagerly awaits official confirmation from Bethesda on this much-anticipated project.

As for platform availability, Microsoft's current strategy emphasizes multiplatform releases. With the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 possibly launching around June, there's speculation that the *Oblivion* remake could be part of the new console's launch lineup, expanding its reach beyond PC, Xbox, and PlayStation to include Nintendo players.
